Extreme Makeover Barn Edition (with apologies to ABC Ty & the gang)
The Coulter’s barn is in need of rebuilding. Much has been done; but much more needs to be done. This barn is the home of "Come and See" Icons, Books & Art and The King’s Jubilee.
The first part of the "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" show (Hereinafter referred to as "HE" is where you hear the sad tale of woe that has befallen some family, usually involving a handicapped person, a death in the family or the loss of a home to some natural disaster; or some extreme combination of all three. The "Extreme Makeover Barn Edition" (hereinafter referred to as "BE") is just like that only completely different.
In this BE episode we do indeed have the interplay of all three. This is to tug at your heartstrings, make you cry, and feel the compelling need to reach out and help this desperate family. The handicapped person is, obviously, Cranford. He suffers from a nearly terminal case of possibilititus. This is an apparently hereditary disease that afflicts males. Victims of possibilititus see horrible ruins and see them restored beyond their former glory in just a Saturday afternoon or two. (Picture the little foster boy from Angels in the Outfield saying, "It could happen!") The death in this family is Bethann’s sanity; at least for a time, when she fell prey to the "Charming House Syndrome" last Spring and agreed to buy the charming house with the amazing barn. The natural disaster hasn’t happened yet, but is inevitable (you see how this adds a level of suspense to the plot): it is Winter. The barn needs to be made "winter worthy" before Cranford’s paint and toes freeze while painting icon edges.
As if you weren’t emotionally stretched to the limit already; when Cranford was asked by his family what he wanted for Christmas, he replied: "All I want is a huge work party to finish the barn!" In HE there is always a cute kid or six; in BE there’s just Cranford.
We know this really isn’t your problem, but are confident that we have tugged on your heartstrings, made you cry, made you laugh to such an extent that you would feel fulfilled to be a part of this effort. It just would be super kind and gracious of you to help Cranford dig out of this hole he has gotten himself into, so the icon business and the homeless ministry can go on smoothly.

If a whole lot of people pitch in, it can be fun and no one will be too terribly inconvenienced. Bring a team of your coworkers or neighbors. Many hands make light work. Don’t think you have to be particularly skilled to do any of these. Cranford doesn’t know how to do any of this stuff, but he never lets it stop him.

Here is the list of tasks for you to volunteer for:

Cleaning

Demolition

Sawing scrap wood for disposing

Floor framing

Floor decking

Insulation

Batten the exterior of the barn.

Caulking

Install sheathing & siding

Country western singer

Electrical wiring

Exterior priming & painting

Drywall installation

Baseboard heat installation

Build stairs

Install doors & remaining windows

Go-fer

Help cook

Photograph or Videograph (It’s 2006. If you can’t see it on your TV, computer, PDA or mobile phone, it didn’t happen.)

Be the loud-mouth with a megaphone

Things we havn’t anticipated

In HE the owners are sent off to Disney World for the week while the whole town destroys and rebuilds their home. In BE the owners will be sticking around mostly to make sure what has already been done isn’t demolished. So there won’t be any exciting reveal or people shouting "Move that bus!" There are a few other differences, like there are no gay designers or free Sears appliances on BE. There won’t be any cool shirts either. Sorry.

The Extreme Makeover Barn Edition: Coulter Event will start at 8 AM, November 11, 2006 and run through 10 PM, November 18, 2006. It should be noted that we will not miss any of the services at church for this. The wrap up party will be after Vespers on November 18 from ~7:30 to 10 PM. The barn is located behind the Coulter's house at:
27 N. Front St.
Souderton, PA 18964

Please call or email to let the Coulters know when you will be coming and what you want to do, so jobs, materials and food can be staged properly. Bring tools and ladders labeled with your name.
